For red blood cell adaptations you need roughly three weeks or more at a decent altitude, sleeping high.

    • Around 2,000-2,500 m is the usual target
    • Short trips mostly give you a tough training week
    • Check iron status before you go

More: altitude training: live high, train low.

Has anyone tried a proper altitude block?

Iron matters at altitude: making new red blood cells needs it. Many athletes get their ferritin checked before a camp, and take iron only if a doctor recommends it.
