Congested periods, with a league match at the weekend and another midweek, leave very little room for training. The week shifts from developing fitness to managing it.

    • With 72 hours or less between matches, many players are not fully recovered; muscle damage markers and perceived fatigue can stay elevated for two to three days
    • Training between matches becomes mostly recovery and light tactical work for starters
    • Substitutes and unused players still need conditioning so they do not lose fitness
    • Rotation helps; the players who play every minute carry the highest load

How does your team handle a midweek match: rotation, lighter training, or both?

A typical Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday pattern for starters: Sunday recovery, Monday light, Tuesday short activation (MD-1), Wednesday match, Thursday recovery, Friday short MD-1. There is effectively no “loading” day. Strength work shrinks to a very short session or is paused for those two weeks.
