Many large studies have linked physical activity and fitness to longer life and lower risk of chronic disease.

    • Higher cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with lower risk of early death in large observational studies
    • Even moderate activity levels appear to provide meaningful benefits compared with inactivity
    • Strength training is also associated with health benefits
    • Most of this evidence is observational, so cause and effect is not fully proven

A practical point: the biggest health gains often come from moving from no activity to some activity. You do not need elite-level training to benefit.
