Great in theory, hard on race day when adrenaline kicks in.

    What works for many people:

    • Start the first 5 km 5-10 seconds per km slower than goal pace
    • Use pace alerts on your watch
    • Join a pacer group that matches your goal

An elite example: Eliud Kipchoge and marathon pacing.

How do you control your pace in the first half?

A data point: elite runners usually set their best times with fairly even pacing. Records that come from a very fast first half followed by a collapse are rare. That shows how much a controlled start is worth.
