Protocol
The 10m Sprint Test is a short-distance sprint test evaluating initial acceleration and explosive starting capacity. Compared to longer sprint tests, the impact of the maximum speed phase is minimal, reflecting pure acceleration capacity.
Preparation: A flat 10-meter surface is marked with cones. A photoelectric cell system or precision hand stopwatch is prepared. The participant warms up for 10–15 minutes. Footwear type is noted. Footwear appropriate for the test surface is recommended.
Test Procedure: The participant stands in a half-squat position at the starting line (standing start). When ready for their own starting rhythm, they initiate the sprint with a forward step. Speed is not reduced at the finish line; the crossing is made at full speed. Gradual deceleration follows after the finish.
Trials: At least 2 trials with 3–5 minutes of rest between; the best time is used.
Data Recording: Sprint time is recorded with millisecond precision. When using a hand stopwatch, at least 0.01 sec accuracy is required.
Calculation: Mean velocity = 10 / t_sec (m/s). An acceleration curve can be plotted for comparison with other sprint distances.
Post-Test: A cool-down walk is performed. The 10m time is interpreted against the athlete’s acceleration profile. Evaluation alongside other sprint tests is recommended.
Formula
Hız (m/s) = 10 / t_sec; ivme = v / t (m/s²)
Equipment Required
10m düz zemin, fotosel veya kronometre, koni
Normative Values (Age: 18-25 (sporcular))
| Classification | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| Excellent | <1.70 saniye | <2.00 saniye |
| Good | 1.70-1.85 saniye | 2.00-2.15 saniye |
| Average | 1.85-2.00 saniye | 2.15-2.30 saniye |
| Below Average | 2.00-2.15 saniye | 2.30-2.50 saniye |
| Poor | >2.15 saniye | >2.50 saniye |
Practical Applications
The 10m sprint test is used in player selection and team performance monitoring in sports such as football, rugby, and ice hockey where initial speed pressure is decisive.
Limitations
Pure acceleration is measured when reaction time is not included. Ground surface affects performance. Error margin with hand stopwatch is high.
