Protocol

The 300m Shuttle Run Test is a field test used to measure anaerobic capacity and lactate tolerance. The participant runs 25 meters back and forth 6 times (6×25m×2 = 300m) in the shortest possible time. Preparation: A flat, firm 25-meter surface is marked with two cones. The participant warms up with a 10-minute easy run and dynamic stretching. Body weight and height measurements are recorded. Test Procedure: The participant stands ready beside the starting cone. On command, they run to the 25-meter cone, touch it, and return. This cycle is repeated 6 times (6 complete round trips = 300m). Rather than coming to a full stop at each turn, the participant should change direction and continue. Total time is measured with a stopwatch. Second Trial: The standard includes 5 minutes of passive rest between two trials. Either the average of two trials or the best value may be used. The difference between trials (difference index) is a fatigue indicator. Data Recording: Each trial time is recorded in seconds. Difference index = (trial2 − trial1) / trial1 × 100. A high difference index indicates insufficient recovery capacity. Post-Test: Active cool-down is performed. Results are compared to normative tables by position and sport.

Formula

Fark İndeksi = (deneme2 - deneme1) / deneme1 × 100; düşük süre = yüksek kapasite

Equipment Required

50m düz alan veya pist, koni, kronometre

Normative Values (Age: 18-30 (takım sporcuları))

ClassificationMaleFemale
Excellent<54 saniye<60 saniye
Good54-58 saniye60-65 saniye
Average58-63 saniye65-71 saniye
Below Average63-68 saniye71-77 saniye
Poor>68 saniye>77 saniye

Practical Applications

This test is used in pre-season anaerobic conditioning assessment of football, basketball, and handball athletes, and to determine recovery capacity during intensive match schedules.

Limitations

Without a photoelectric cell, measurement error can be high. Surface type (grass, tartan, hardwood) affects times; standardization is required.
